General options

Convert scanned images to PNG before further processing
This might need unchecking if scanning images.

Scan

Note that the Scan dialog opens too small to show all the settings - enlarge it before doing anything else.

Page options

#Pages: select All if using ADF - it should stop scanning when feed tray is empty.

Source document: select Single sided or Double sided. Select Facing or Reverse if doing double sided - although this seems to be handled automatically when doing double sided.

Save: I'm not sure what this saves - probably just the page options.

Edit: this opens a dialog that allows deletion of Backend: Scan source and Frontend: num_pages. I don't know what this means.

Scan mode

Scan mode: select Lineart (for line diagrams or text), Grey or Color.

Scan resolution: default of 100dpi is too low for most purposes. 300dpi is better for text. 400dpi is recommended for OCR.

Scan source: select Flatpad or ADF for Epson printer.

Geometry

Select Paper Size as Manual, A4 or Edit (to enter dimensions). I think "Manual" might mean "Automatic", but I'm not sure.
