TRANSITION NETWORKS

Under News there is News, Climate Change and Blog. Possible places to suggest publicizing OWT. Maybe TransitionTogether (for UK) is the main one to try (also they have a newsletter)Contact form at least 200 lines by 45 chars. Also a Totnes postal address

The climate crisis, inequality, division and widespread discrimination show our political and economic systems are not serving the wellbeing of people or the planet. But people from all walks of life are coming together to turn this around and build a better future. Communities are stepping up to address the big challenges they face by starting local.

If we wait for governments, it will be too late. If we act as individuals, it will be too little. But if we act as communities, it might just be enough, and it might just be in time. Transition Together supports people to connect locally to build more sustainable and equal communities where we have control over our day to day lives.

Some principles:

We collaborate and look for synergies – The Transition approach is to work together as a community, unleashing our collective genius to have a greater impact together than we can as individuals. We will look for opportunities to build creative and powerful partnerships across and beyond the Transition movement and develop a collaborative culture, finding links between projects, creating open decision-making processes and designing events and activities that help people make connections.

We foster positive visioning and creativity – Our primary focus is not on being against things, but on developing and promoting positive possibilities. We believe in using creative ways to engage and involve people, encouraging them to imagine the future they want to inhabit. The generation of new stories is central to this visioning work, as is having fun and celebrating success.

EXTINCTIONREBELLION

I notice that you are interested in the possibility of collaborating with other organisations.

It is clear that we need so many more people to have the impact we need, whether it is for an early reduction in emissions,  mass protest or to provide a large social mandate for instance.

Ideally it would be good if everyone did all they could do in this climate crisis - protest, cut their own emissions, campaign, petition etc.

But to engage people in the first instance, it may be that we have to encourage behaviours that are not so far from their normal range of behaviours for them to be influenced by what others are doing within their own social groups.

To this end, Our World Together, a non-profit organisation, aims to increase our numbers  by publicizing the counts of people pledging in their social groups, such as their town or city, age and occupation. This provides some competition between the groups. Pledge certificates can be posted online and posters are available for displaying on noticeboards at home, work or community centres for instance as well as online.

Pledges initially are for those behaviours that have the most impact on emissions, so that in this crucial decade, we start having an impact.

We each try in our own ways, but working together has to make us all more powerful.

If you agree it would be helpful if you would contact your members providing a link to our pledges and posters page so that, if they choose, they can  pledge and be counted in whatever social groups they identify with, which may be protestor instead of occupation, or scientist_protestor maybe. We aim to engage the wealthy in the higher income countries, a large part of which is  North America and Europe

Your reach to separate towns and cities, as well as occupations,  would help our initiative to increase the numbers actively engaged, [Once engaged people can wieldtheir power in whatever way they choose] and from your perspective, could help add activists, especially if it is seen that XR rebels are also doing all they can to reduce their emissions - it seems to add credibility to your message and less resistance to protests.

We will probably be adding a page of N ext Steps where people can add to what they are already doing in theor own lives - such as becoming involved in petitions, campaigns or prootests - essentially making it aa partnering page. So if you are interested in partnering, or have any feedback, please let me know.

MUMFORLUNGS

Hello

Our World Together, a non-profit organisation, has complementary aims to yours in that we want to increase the number of people tackling the climate crisis, which includes cutting our own emissions from road transport.

The aim is to publicize what people are already doing to reduce car journeys and cars on the road, which increases our power to [influence and] spread change in the social groups we identify with, and to change social norms.

When people pledge they will be counted in their social groups, such as their town or borough, age or occupation - providing an element of competition between groups. Pledge counts of social groups pledge certificates and posters will be available to display in our homes, on noticeboards and online.

We want to galvanize grassroots action, initially in cutting emissions, and bring climate change into everyday life and conversation.

[We also have a forum to further enhance a sense of community where we can share tips and experiences, hopes and fears – a place to feel that together our actions are worthwhile.]

I am writing to ask if you could use your resources to help publicize this initiative among your members.  If you agree, here is a link to our transport section  https://ourworldtogether.org/1-what-can-i-do/#transport, and our pledges https://ourworldtogether.org/1-pledges.

Any feedback or ideas on partnering would be welcome.

Thanks for your time

Our World Together, a non-profit, is doing something complementary to your goals in that we are aiming to increase the number of people tackling the climate crisis, which initially includes cutting our own emissions, a large part of which comes from road transport.

*OWT , like MumsForlungs, is tackling environmental issues, but specifically aims to increase the number of individuals actively engaged in the climate crisis, initially through cutting their own emissions, a large part of which is road transport.

The aim is to use our ability to influence, and to be influenced by, each other via the social groups that we identify with, such as our town or borough, age and occupation. it doesn’t need many in a group for a new behaviour to rapidly gather momentum and spread to produce a new social norm.

____________

I am writing to ask if you could help to publicize an initiative, by Our World Together, to engage many more people in this climate emergency, initially in cutting their own emissions, a major part of which comes from road transport.

The aim is to increase numbers by using our capacity to influence, and to be influenced by, each other in the social groups we identify with.

To this end OWT aims to increase the power to influence, through publicizing pledged changes,[and] the count of people pledging in each social group, such as their town or city, occupation or age, and the best in group.

Hello

I am writing to ask if you could use your resources to help to publicize an initiative, by Our World Together, to amass many more individuals engaged in tackling the climate crisis.

The aims complement yours, as you can see from the attached brief description of what we are intending to do.

If you agree, it would be much appreciated if, for example, you could email and tweet your supporters with a link to our pledge and poster pages. The pledges will enable people to be counted in their social groups ,and the posters can be displayed in their homes and on noticeboards at work or in their local shops and community centres.

Thanks for your time.

Our World Together Initiative

Some of us are doing all we can in our lives in this climate crisis, whether through lifestyle change or campaigns, for example. But to have the kind of impacts we need on emissions and on corporate and government policy, we need so many more people to be active.

Our World Together (OWT), a non-profit organisation, aims to increase our numbers through our capacity to influence, and to be influenced by, each other via the social groups that we identify with. And it doesn’t need many in a group for a new behaviour to rapidly gather momentum and spread to produce a new social norm. But so often we do not know that people in our neighbourhoods are doing anything, only that some may not be engaged at all.

To this end OWT aims to increase the power to influence, through publicizing pledged changes, the counts of people pledging in each social group, such as their town or city, occupation or age, and the best in group globally. This introduces an element of competition between social groups, and a sense of community to spur further change. Counts, pledge certificates and posters will be available to display on social media and elsewhere.

We also have a forum to further enhance a sense of community where we can share tips and experiences, hopes and fears – a place to feel that together our actions are worthwhile.

Pledges are for those behavioural changes that will have the most impact on emissions, but also those that can have an immediate effect – to achieve cuts early this decade (since carbon pricing and other policies are not imminent).

Pledges are mainly those that involve boycotting services (such as banks) and reducing consumption of products (for example, meat and fossil fuels used in transport and energy). As we reduce emissions, we also reduce corporate profits and shape the policies of those that put profit before planet.

The resources on our site are aimed at raising awareness of why changes are needed, and the many ways we can achieve emission cuts, with options to suit different circumstances.

With many more people engaged, our collective power can be wielded in whatever way suits the task or the individual, including petitions, campaigns, protests, boycotts or simply the provision of a social mandate.

How we increase numbers is the subject of an article from Our World Together, published in The Ecologist, with a link to it on our website: https://ourworldtogether.org/1-articles/
